Award-winning broadcast journalist Ted Failon gives TV viewers this Saturday (Dec 8) a comprehensive report of what Kasambahay Bill is all about in “Failon Ngayon.”
Under the Kasambahay Bill or House Bill No. 6144, househelps are required to submit a medical certificate, a birth certificate, and a police clearance to process their application. Upon compliance, the employer will then make a contract and terms must be thoroughly discussed with the househelp before both parties sign it.
The said bill also protects the domestic workers by not holding them liable for any damages done inside the employer’s house and if ever they request to leave, the employer cannot hold the househelp in any way even if he/she is heavily indebted financially.
Should the President Noynoy Aquino sign the Kasambahay Bill or should lawmakers review it further to ensure that it is mutually beneficial to both the employers and the househelps?
