A week after our very own Manny Pacquiao was knocked-out by Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez, Nonito Donaire crushed his Mexican opponent today, December 16 (Manila time), at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. He retained his world super bantamweight titles.
The bout is dubbed “D-Day” which stands for “Demolition Day.” Now it can also stand for “Donito-Day” as the Filipino Flash dominated the fight, flooring the Mexican in round 2 with a strong right hand punch and stopping him via technical knock out in round 3 by a final left hook on the jaw. The official time of stoppage was 2:59.
With his victory, Donaire retained his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight belt and The RING championship. He also improved his rank to no. 4 of the pound-for-pound ranking of the top fifty boxers in the world.
Donaire’s professional boxing record now stands with 31 Wins (20 knockouts, 11 decisions), 1 Loss (by decision), 0 Draws.
