"Failon Ngayon" New York Festivals 2013 Finalist

ABS-CBN's investigative program "Failon Ngayon" anchored by veteran broadcast journalist Ted Failon, made it is an official finalist in the Current Affairs category in this year's prestigious New York Festivals for its extensive expose on the negative effects of mining spills caused by abandoned mines in the country.

"Failon Ngayon" is one of the four ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs programs that made it as finalists in the prestigious New York Festivals beating its rival GMA News TV, which only has two nominations. Its episode titled "Mine Tailings" not only tackled the sediment flow incident in Padacal, Itogon, and Benguet, but also educated the public on the hazards that could harm the environment and also the nearby residents.

The New York Festival's World's Best Television & Films competition honors quality programming in all lengths and forms from over 50 countries.

This Saturday (February 9), Ted investigates on the unresolved cases filed against different notorious gangs in the country today.

Last January 26, the ill-famed Martilyo Gang mugged a pawnshop in San Roque, Cavite and robbed expensive pieces of jewelry. By using hammers, the armed criminals broke the jewelry shelves and fired a gun to frighten bystanders.

Waray-waray Gang, one of the country's most infamous gangs, is a kidnap-for-ransom group whose members are Warays. The Acetylene Gang, on the other hand, robs pawnshops, making holes in their safety vaults by using acetylene torches.

How do they create a name for these groups? Do the police profile these criminals correctly? Since police officers already recognize these gangs, why are they still free?

Don't miss this full report in "Failon Ngayon" this Saturday (Feb 9), 4:45 PM on ABS-CBN with a replay on ANC every Sunday, 2PM.
