Francisco “Bamboo” Mañalac will be the second coach in the Philippine version of the reality singing contest “The Voice.”

The former Rivermaya and Bamboo frontman joins Sarah Geronimo, who was introduced to be part of the show early this month, in recruiting contestants to their respective teams to coach them for a chance to be named “The Voice.”

“Handa na ako maging coach. May tamang oras lahat ng 'yan at naniniwala akong ito na ‘yun,” Bamboo said of his stint in the “The Voice of the Philippines.”

Although popularly known for his contribution to local rock music, Bamboo said he is open to coaching singing hopefuls who identify with different genres of music.

Matagal na akong nakikinig sa rock pero pinapakinggan ko lahat ng genres – from rock to pop to folk to everything. Naghahanap ako ng singer na bukas sa iba't ibang klaseng musika at willing makinig at matuto,” he said.

In order to form their teams, the coaches will hold “Blind Auditions,” where their backs are turned to the contestants. Only the voice will be the determining factor in prompting the coaches to push their button, turning their chair around, to signal their intention to recruit the contestant.

Hosted by Toni Gonzaga, “The Voice of the Philippines” is currently holding auditions in time for its premiere telecast later this year on ABS-CBN.

Aspiring contestants can audition online until February 19 by logging on to www.thevoice.abs-cbn.com.

On-ground auditions will also be held in Bacolod, Iloilo, Tacloban, and Cebu on February 23; General Santos, Zamboanga, Cagayan De Oro, and Davao on March 2; and in Palawan, Laoag, Naga, Legazpi, Baguio, Dagupan, and Manila on March 9.

Participants must have Filipino ancestry and must be 16 years of age by June 2013.
