The Positive: Ang Lee transforms this “unfilmable” best-selling novel by Yann Martel into a visual masterpiece. His skill in probing depths of the human heart is impressive, from “Sense and Sensibility” to “Brokeback Mountain” and now “Life of Pi.”

The visual effects and cinematography are stunning. It’s a shoo-in for technical awards come Oscar time.

The Negative: A mammoth of symbolisms used in the film clouds the message that it wants to convey. Nevertheless, the thought-provoking ending makes it worth-watching the second time.

Memorable Line: “Doubt is useful, it keeps faith a living thing. After all, you cannot know the strength of your faith until it is tested.”

Quality: 5-stars

Entertainment: 4.5 stars

STARMOMETER SCORE: 9.5/10
