Set 15 years after the events of the well-known Brothers Grimm story, “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunter” offers an appropriate dark take on the classic fairy tale.

Movie Info: After getting a taste for blood as children, Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton) have become the ultimate vigilantes, hell bent on retribution. Now, unbeknownst to them, Hansel and Gretel have become the hunted, and must face an evil far greater than witches…their past. –Paramount
The Positive: This live-action reimagining of the classic fairy tale is appropriately dark, delightfully edgy and occasionally gory.
Its production elements in depicting medieval grunge are evocative and gritty while the 3-D special effects will blow you away (that’s why I recommend to watch it in 3D instead of 2D).
Jeremy Renner, as expected, is magnetic in the starring role as Hansel.
The no-nonsense approach of Wirkola is commendable.
The Negative: Gemma Arterton as Gretel is sexy but I get a Kristen Stewart vibe from her and I’m not quite sure if it’s a good thing.
Memorable Line: “I go by many names, none of which you’re worthy of pronouncing.”
