Award-winning broadcast journalist Ted Failon probes on the status of House Bill 1799 or the so-called Divorce Bill this Saturday (Jan 19) in "Failon Ngayon."
According to Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan, one of the authors of the said bill, there are 800 cases of legal separation and annulment being submitted to the office of the Solicitor General every month. From 2001 to 2007, there were more than 43,650 applications filed and in 2010 alone, 8,282 were already recorded.
As expected, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and other religious organizations are against this bill as it will allegedly break the sanctity of marriage.
The Philippines is the only country in the world that doesn't implement divorce. This is the reason Filipinos who want to end their marital obligations would settle via legal separation or annulment.
Are Filipinos ready for the Divorce Bill? What are its pros and cons?
